Leadership Academy

Contemporary challenging environments demand that leaders explore their potential; build competencies and skills to deal with challenges unique to their context. Leaders have to understand their organisations even better and prepare to steer them for internal changes as per the changing socio-political environment. The Leadership Academy co-sponsored by a host of organisations hopes to fill that need.

IST in partnership with its two sister organizations namely Janvikas and IDEAL runs Leadership Academy for second line leaders of civil society organizations. It is an annual 4 inter modular capacity building programme that focusing on building perspective, knowledge, skills and required attribute to develop oneself as an effective leader.

Youth & Citizenship

A notable contribution of the Youth & Citizenship intervention is the voluntary-based young citizen leaders (YCLs) it has promoted. These YCLs, living in villages and small towns of the rural and urban economies have come forward to be trained in youth leadership camps (4 days) to develop social perspectives; enhance their knowledge and skills and thereafter give their voluntary time to facilitate socio-economic development of villages. Since the last two phases, the Youth Project has promoted 300 YCLs. YCLs act as change agents and have motivated other youth in their villages to take on similar roles to keep vigilance on village and block level administration; cooperated with local level administration when opportunities came their way to better civic amenities (sanitation, roads, drainage system in the village, playgrounds, nursery schools and health) and facilitated access to various government schemes to village communities.

Conflictorium

IST has set up a museum of peace in a heritage building donated by a Parsi lady – a first beautician of Ahmedabad city. This museum has been set up as a very creative and attractive space for children, youth, women which have huge potentials in future to raise local contributions through different attractive spaces within and events. Still it’s a work in progress, but once it becomes one of the attractions in the city, it will start attracting many visitors.
